Jayne Melville Whyte, member of the Canadian Mental Health Association since 1975, has also connected with alternative mental health organizations. The National Network for Mental Health is the national organization of consumer/survivors. The Mad Society of Canada is made up of psychiatric survivors who seek more freedom and choice about treatments, educating other survivors and the public.. The History of Madness website collective brings together survivors and academics to research, illustrate, and share educational materials that reflect the knowledge and wisdom of people with lived experience of mental illness. In 2017, Jayne was chosen as one of 150 Difference Makers in a national nomination process sponsored by CAMH, Centre for Addictions and Mental Health in Toronto www.camhdifferencemakers.ca.
